During our recent journey, we experienced truly unforgettable moments, including attending our very first European Cup! After spending a few weeks in Germany, we headed south to Italy for even more adventures. While in Ischia, we decided to embark on a Capri Tour, fulfilling a long-held dream of visiting the Grùtta Azzurra, commonly known as the Blue Grotto. This incredible experience exceeded all my expectations. The sunlight filtering through an underwater opening casts a stunning blue light throughout the cavern, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere. Interestingly, Emperor Tiberius used this grotto as his personal swimming pool and a marine temple during Roman times! It truly felt like stepping into another world.
The best way to access the Grotta Azzurra is via bus, though the journey can be a bit bumpy and uncomfortable. Alternatively, you can opt for a scenic ride on a water taxi or an ordinary cab. Nearby, there is a beautiful beach area perfect for cliff diving, making it a fantastic way to spend your day. The surroundings of the Grotta Azzurra offer something for everyone, whether you’re in search of adventure or relaxation.
Having spent two days in Capri, we enjoyed both the vibrant atmosphere of the daytime and the tranquil ambiance of the night. Capri is bustling with visitors from the early morning until around 5 or 6 in the evening when the boats set sail back. While Capri Town is a lively hub of activity, the port area is relatively quiet.
Walking around Capri Town in the evening is fantastic, free from the crowds. By nightfall, most visitors have left, creating a peaceful and serene environment. If you’re looking to soak in Capri’s quiet charm, I highly recommend visiting in the evening.
I was pleasantly surprised at how this magical place reignited my sense of wonder. While swimming in the grotto isn’t permitted, it’s still a breathtaking experience. The calm, cool atmosphere of the Blue Grotto refreshes your spirit and transports you to an ethereal realm. It inspired me to seek out new adventures, and I’m already eager to plan our next visit. This trip has become a cherished memory that I will hold dear for a lifetime.
To truly appreciate all that Capri has to offer, I recommend booking a trip with a tour operator or travel designer. This helps ensure you don’t waste time and can fully enjoy your experience in Capri. Though the location is stunning, navigating it can be challenging without prior knowledge of the area.
While you’re in Capri, be sure not to miss Villa San Michele or take the funicular up to Mount Solaro, the highest point on the island. Once at the summit, you can unwind at a lovely restaurant, enjoy a refreshing drink or snack, and take in the breathtaking views of the island. Just keep in mind that the lift might not be suitable for those traveling with young children or who have a fear of heights. And, of course, your visit to Capri wouldn’t be complete without indulging in a classic Lemon Sorbet or Granita—a delightful treat to conclude your stay.
