Greetings, Everyone! – Exploring Canadian Kilometers

Date:

Hello, everyone! It’s been a while since I posted new content, as many of you have likely noticed. Part of the reason for this is that I have been occupied with several other commitments. However, I wanted to take a moment to share something challenging that I’ve been experiencing—points fatigue. Just kidding! A little humor to lighten the mood 😉

Mt. Fuji – November 2014!

In fact, over the past year, I’ve only opened two credit cards, both from the U.S. They include the U.S. Bank Altitude Visa Infinite, which offers 3x points on Samsung/Apple Pay, and the Chase Hyatt Visa. I also assisted family members in obtaining the BMO World Elite Mastercard and the American Express Platinum Card. This is a significant drop compared to my usual activity in previous years.

I haven’t engaged in any manufactured spending or ventured into award bookings that bend the rules in the last year. Believe it or not, I’ve contacted Aeroplan over 50 times this past year. That’s quite surprising for me. It indicates that my account balances are lower than they used to be, but given the current trend of devaluations, I’m learning to accept that. Nevertheless, it feels odd to have my Aeroplan balance down to the low hundreds of thousands of miles, without any Alaska miles left in my account (at the moment).

Many bloggers write with the aim of maximizing views to form partnerships and generate income. While it’s only fair that writers receive compensation (after all, most purchases can’t be made with miles at a reasonable rate), this website has always been a passion project for me. I loved writing simply for the joy of it! I recognize how fortunate I am to have had the freedom to pursue my interests in life—something not everyone is able to enjoy.

Throughout this journey, I’ve met incredible people who have become lifelong friends. This was something I could never have anticipated when I initially started this as a hobby. I am grateful for these experiences, and they will hold a special significance for me for years to come. The highs and lows of navigating the world of miles and points have been pivotal in shaping my personal journey.

Ultimately, the loyalty industry tends to operate counter to the economy’s cycles. With the economy thriving (for the most part) right now, airlines, hotels, and financial institutions have less motivation to offer enticing rewards for customer loyalty. However, I remain hopeful that the sparkle will return soon. If you’re interested in contributing content to Canadian Kilometers, please feel free to reach out!
