The Santa Barbara Cammino Mine Trail runs 300 miles through the ancient landscape of Sardinia. This fascinating journey is enriched by historical, cultural, and religious elements, allowing you to walk in the footsteps of miners who have traversed these paths for millennia. The trail is divided into 30 stages, designed around areas with accommodations and points of interest where you might wish to rest during your expedition. With over 8,000 years of history woven into its cultural fabric, those under 35 years old can enjoy free lodging along the way.
The initiative, called “Leg’s Go in Cammino,” aims to introduce travelers to the region surrounding the Santa Barbara trail. To take part, you’ll need to acquire a “walker’s passport” from the Cammino di Santa Barbara Foundation for a fee of five euros. After making an online donation to the foundation’s website, you will receive three accommodation vouchers, which can be used at designated stops along the route for free lodging. While there is no minimum donation required, the foundation recommends considering the number of nights you plan to stay when deciding on the amount. For details on affiliated accommodations and dining recommendations, please visit the foundation’s website here.
If you wish to complete the trail but are over 35 years of age, the standard fees apply—20€ for “Posadas,” which are stays managed directly by the foundation, and 28€ for participating accommodations.
For assistance in organizing your hike, check out the free app called Cammino di Santa Barbara. To begin the hike, you will need to obtain the “passport” from their official website or at their office locations for 5€, granting you permission to walk the trail as well as stamps from various municipalities and parishes, plus discounts at stops along the way. Information on payment options and further details can be found here.
