Today, Chianti experienced another significant rainfall just 3 to 5 weeks before the start of the Chianti vendemmia (grape harvest), which is exactly what was needed. Back in June, we anticipated a very fruitful grape harvest, following five years of decline. However, a drought followed, causing concern among growers. Initially, they hoped for a small yet concentrated grape harvest, but as the drought persisted, the possibility of having no harvest at all loomed larger. Now, in a miraculous turn of events, we’ve had two substantial downpours in just one week. Coupled with the intense heat over the last few months, this will lead to grapes that are rich in flavor and yield an excellent volume of juice.
The 2022 Chianti wine vintage is set to be extraordinary.
