Have you visited Budapest recently, or are you planning a trip soon? If so, you may have heard about the flooding of the Danube and other rivers in Europe, which is causing significant disruption. The Danube has created many challenges in Hungary, and although Budapest has taken effective measures to protect itself, many residents have still been affected. For instance, there have been no boat tours on the Danube for the past week due to the strong currents and high water levels, making navigation difficult beneath the bridges.
The good news is that the water levels peaked this weekend, with the Danube rising nearly 8.5 meters above its normal level. Thankfully, the water is now receding. As a result, starting September 25, most boat tours on the Danube will resume, allowing you the opportunity to enjoy dinner on the river, experience folklore performances, or embark on a sightseeing journey where you can learn more about the city with the help of a guide through a loudspeaker or earplugs.
Despite the fact that water levels are going down, the Danube still has a significant amount of water, so anyone walking near the river should exercise extreme caution due to the strong currents.
