Medellín: A Personal Insight
Medellín feels like home to me, and I often find myself drawn back to this vibrant city.
With its pleasant climate, hospitable locals, and a variety of neighborhoods to explore based on my mood, I am never at a loss for things to do. When I’m in the mood for a chic night out, I head to El Poblado. For a more authentic experience, I enjoy the atmosphere around Setenta (70th Street), soaking in the local vibes with some drinks and Latin music. Finally, Laureles is perfect for indulging in a delicious menu del día.
There are numerous affordable options for accommodations, dining, and nightlife, as well as an array of cool cafés and year-round artistic events. Plus, there are so many nearby attractions and activities to consider!
When friends or family visit me in Medellín, I craft an itinerary that showcases the true essence of the city, moving beyond the common stereotypes.
The first day is all about cultural exploration. I kick things off with a free walking tour that provides an insightful glimpse into Colombia’s history as we wander through the streets. After enjoying a serving of Bandeja Paisa, the quintessential local dish, we explore Plaza Botero and visit the Museo de Antioquia. That evening, I take them to Segundo Parque in Laureles for a casual dinner.
On the second day, we immerse ourselves in the local culture starting with a visit to a typical market. Our fruit tasting introduces my guests to exotic flavors. In the afternoon, we visit the Museo de la Memoria, which provides significant insight into the armed conflict. We conclude the day with some salsa dancing at one of my favorite spots.
For the third day, I like to showcase how Medellín has evolved. The best example of this change is a trip to Comuna 13 and its impactful street art. In the afternoon, we enjoy a visit to the trendy El Poblado neighborhood, where we can unwind with a drink on a stylish rooftop while taking in the city views.
I believe three days is sufficient to appreciate Medellín without feeling rushed. If my guests have extra time, I enjoy taking them for some paragliding or rafting. Alternatively, we might plan a trip to Guatapé or enjoy a tranquil chocolate tour in San Rafael.

Cartagena: A Personal Insight
I adore Cartagena for its vibrant and colorful streets, as well as the enchanting atmosphere of its stunning historic center, crammed with cozy boutique hotels and charming shops. It’s my top pick for a romantic getaway.
I also love bringing friends and family here because Cartagena perfectly exemplifies Colombia’s colonial splendor.
To fully enjoy the city, I recommend wandering through the historic center early in the morning, before the heat and crowds arrive. Be sure to stop by the more authentic San Diego neighborhood to grab a coffee and pastry. After a relaxing afternoon break, visiting the Museo Naval offers a nice touch of historical insight.
To cap off the day, I suggest watching the sunset from a chic rooftop or along the bustling city walls. I also enjoy taking visitors to Getsemaní, which provides a more laid-back, authentic atmosphere.
A visit to Cartagena wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the stunning Rosario Islands. I love to rent a private boat for a day with my friends and family, finding secluded spots away from the tourist crowds. If I really want to soak in the island vibes, I even spend two nights there.
