Porto is a hidden gem known for its exceptional vegetarian dining options. With coffee shops like Noshi Coffee and fully vegetarian restaurants like Vegana by Tentúgal, there is no shortage of delicious meat-free meals to enjoy.

With such a diverse selection of vegetarian eateries, having a plan is essential. To assist you, I’ve compiled a list of some of the top vegetarian restaurants that you should include in your next food tour of Porto.

Noshi Coffee

Noshi Coffee is an outstanding coffee shop located in Porto’s Baixa neighborhood, dedicated to serving health-conscious customers. Many menu items are vegetarian or vegan-friendly, with several gluten-free choices. On weekends, they lend extra focus to brunch, offering a variety of vegetarian dishes.

The atmosphere at Noshi is relaxed, featuring soft lighting, natural wood accents, and plenty of greenery, making it an inviting spot for customers to linger. It’s easy to settle down here for a long lunch, tackling your emails and getting some work done.

Their menu is artfully curated, focusing on fresh, wholesome ingredients. They prioritize seasonal produce and local offerings from the Mercado. Popular dishes include their avocado toast, adorned with unique toppings like flaxseeds and microgreens, as well as colorful smoothie bowls.

The last smoothie bowl I enjoyed was a feast for the eyes, reminiscent of a Van Gogh painting. Built on a base of ripe bananas, it exuded a sweet and tropical aroma, garnished with fresh strawberries and blueberries. A light sprinkle of granola added the perfect crunch, and a drizzle of wildflower honey tied it all together.

Noshi is a true coffee shop, where you can start your day with a delightful pastel de nata alongside one of their flat whites, cappuccinos, or pour-over brews.

Noshi Coffee (€€) – Rua do Carmo 11 12, 4050-164 Porto, Portugal – Open daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Com Cuore

Nestled in Porto’s Cedofeita neighborhood, Com Cuore specializes in fresh, nutritious cuisine. This spot is favored by locals seeking healthy vegetarian options.

The atmosphere at Com Cuore is warm and inviting, featuring minimalistic décor. While the space may feel a bit snug, it creates an intimate setting, ideal for sharing a healthy meal with a close friend.

Their menu is filled with delectable vegetarian and vegan choices, emphasizing fresh ingredients and balanced flavors. The veggie bowls are particularly popular among both locals and tourists, often made with quinoa, seasonal vegetables, and inventive dressings.

Don’t miss the secret gem on the menu: the soup of the day. The chefs masterfully extract subtle flavors that delight the palate.

My favorite was their sopa de abóbora, or pumpkin soup, enjoyed during a fall visit. It showcased the pumpkin’s natural sweetness, elevated by a touch of lemon and a gentle warmth from the seasoning.

Com Cuore (€€) – Rua Trindade Coelho entrada 10 Loja 11, 4050-618 Porto, Portugal – Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Closed on Mondays.

daTerra Baixa

daTerra Baixa is among the top vegetarian and vegan dining spots in downtown Porto. It boasts a lively atmosphere and a menu brimming with innovative plant-based dishes.

The decor features a modern and minimalist style, enhanced by warm earth tones and ample natural light, creating an organic ambiance. The seating areas are cozy enough for engaging conversations while providing a sense of privacy.

daTerra Baixa’s menu adapts with the seasons, drawing inspiration from local market offerings. While a la carte staples like vegan lasagna, stuffed mushrooms, and quinoa salad easily tempt, they also feature buffet-style dining.

On my last visit, I sampled their sweet potato gnocchi. It had the hearty texture you’d expect from traditional Italian gnocchi but infused with a subtle sweetness.

However, the highlight of the evening was the vegan chocolate cake for dessert. It was indulgent and sweet without the heaviness that can sometimes accompany vegan treats.

daTerra Baixa (€€) – Rua de Mouzinho da Silveira 249, 4050-421 Porto, Portugal – Open daily from 9:00 AM to 10:30 PM.

Vegana By Tentúgal

Vegana by Tentúgal is notable for being one of the few places in Porto, or even Lisbon, offering a vegetarian Pastel de Nata. Conveniently, it’s just a short stroll from São Bento train station, making it an ideal stop for a quick snack or a casual meal while exploring another part of the city.

The cozy interior features minimalistic decoration, arranged to promote sharing a delightful vegetarian meal with a friend.

While the pastel de nata is a must-try, the menu also includes a range of vegetarian delights, such as plant-based desserts and gluten-free pastries.

Their lunch menu comprises excellent vegetarian and vegan versions of traditional Portuguese dishes, including tofu, seitan, and a vegetarian francesinha sandwich that creatively replaces sausage, cheese, and sauce with plant-based ingredients.

During my last visit, I enjoyed the daily special, a vegetarian quiche. The chef roasted the vegetables beforehand, ensuring they were cooked to perfection while adding depth of flavor that elevates the dish.

Vegana by Tentúgal (€€) – Rua de Santo Ildefonso 412, Porto, Portugal – Open Wednesday to Monday from 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Closed on Tuesdays.

APURO Vegan Bar

If you’re craving a quality cocktail or craft beer with some vegetarian tapas, APURO Vegan Bar is a must-visit. Located in Porto’s trendy Bonfim neighborhood, it’s a favorite watering hole for locals and tourists alike.

The rustic ambiance features wooden furniture that gives it a modern twist on the old Porto “Tascas” found along the Douro River over a century ago, enhanced by touches of greenery for a natural vibe.

Most of the offerings at APURO Vegan Bar are vegan, though vegetarian options abound. Popular dishes include plant-based burgers, vegan francesinha, and specialty bowls.

Even non-vegetarians curious about this cuisine will find APURO an inviting place to explore. The friendly staff are happy to help you navigate the menu to find the perfect dish for your taste.

The vegan nachos are one of my top picks at APURO. The vegetarian cheese sauce has just the right amount of “Nooch” nutritional yeast to give it a creamy richness akin to real cheese, perfectly balancing the rest of the vegetables.

Apuro Vegan Bar (€€) – Rua do Breiner 236, 4050-124 Porto, Portugal – Open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 12:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Open Friday and Saturday from 1:00 PM to 12:00 AM. Closed on Wednesday and Sunday.

Conclusion

Porto, as a modern city, proudly boasts some of the best vegetarian restaurants in Western Europe. From vegetarian-friendly coffee spots like Noshi Coffee to the innovative dishes at Vegana by Tentúgal, there is truly something for everyone.
