The tour kicks off at 8 a.m. from Reykjavík, making our way to the renowned geothermal area of Geysir, known for its vibrant hot springs. Here, every five minutes, the geyser named Strokkur erupts, sending water up to 35 meters into the air. This area is named after the world’s first known spouting hot spring, “Geysir,” which is now dormant but continues to inspire the name for all geysers.
The stunning Gullfoss waterfall is created when meltwater from Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier, tumbles down a dramatic gorge. On a clear day, you can capture a perfect moment as you see the Langjökull glacier in the distance and perhaps even spot a rainbow glimmering in the mist of the waterfall!
Our next stop is the remarkable site where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates are drifting apart. Few places on Earth can showcase this incredible geological phenomenon as vividly as Thingvellir National Park. This park also features Iceland’s largest natural lake, which hosts a rich variety of fish and bird species. Additionally, Thingvellir holds significant historical importance; it was here, in 930 AD, that Icelanders established their parliament, where chieftains gathered during the summer. The name Thingvellir translates to “Parliament Plains.”
