Exploring the Flekkefjord Line by Bike

Date:

As a child, you were probably told not to ride your bike on the railway tracks. Well, here’s a unique opportunity to do just that across 34 km!

The Flekkefjord Line, known as Flekkefjordbanen in Norwegian, is a former railway track that has been transformed into a draisine route, commonly referred to as a rail bike. We have experienced draisine rides before, but none compare to the stunning views and long tunnels found on this route. Watch the video below as we traverse the full 34 km track, including a remarkable 16 km spent in complete darkness inside the tunnels.

Practical Information

The Flekkefjord Line begins in Flekkefjord, Norway, as one might expect. All draisines are tandem bikes, allowing space for two riders and a small bench that accommodates one adult or two children as passengers.

A ride on the railway costs 500 kr per bike during the low season and 600 kr during the busy summer season (approximately 70 USD). The service operates daily from May 1st to October 11th. For more details and to make reservations, visit the Flekkefjord Line’s official website.
