As we wait for our turn to enjoy the mud, we take a dip in one of the sulphur pools. At first, it feels a bit odd stepping into water that has a murky yellow hue. It looks somewhat toxic and has that unmistakable sulphur smell (think rotten eggs). If I discovered this water in a natural setting rather than a beautiful, tropical pool, I would probably avoid it altogether.
The sulphur gives the water a slippery, soapy texture, but once we get accustomed to the smell and appearance, we find ourselves loving it and unwinding!
Hell’s Gate features two spacious sulphur baths, both of which overlook a geothermal park filled with steaming fumaroles. The experience is truly unique, and I can’t help but marvel at this natural wonder.
After some time, a staff member informs us that it’s our turn to enjoy the mud pools, and we’re lucky enough to have our very own small pool!
