Essential Summer Tips for New York in 2024
Take the time to explore New York on foot, but be mindful of the heat. Stay hydrated, seek shade whenever possible, and protect yourself from the sun, especially between 1 PM and 4 PM.
During these two months, it’s best to avoid the subway platforms where it can be extremely hot. If you must use the subway, try to minimize your wait times to stay cool. And if you see an empty subway car during rush hour, be cautious—there might be no air conditioning!
At night, enjoy the pleasant weather and attend some of the summer festivals happening around the city.
For sunbathing, Central Park is an ideal spot. However, if you’re in the mood for a swim, New York has beautiful beaches that are just a train ride away. For more details, check out our guide on the best beaches in New York.
If you prefer swimming in pools, don’t miss our recommendations for the top public pools in Manhattan.

This day is marked as a national holiday, celebrated with spectacular fireworks organized by Macy’s. (Check out our article on the Macy’s July 4th Fireworks).
