Delicious Argentinian Cuisine at El Porteno in Testaccio, Rome

Date:

Be sure to visit El Porteno Gourmet, located at Via dell’Umiltà, 37 in Rome, for an exceptional South American dining experience and great people-watching at the elegant ground floor of the five-star hotel, Umiltà 36.

This vibrant Argentinian restaurant offers a memorable setting ideal for special occasions. As you dine, you’ll feel the lively ambiance reminiscent of a polo lounge or tango club. Don’t forget to check out their stunning rooftop for al fresco dining and drinks during the warmer months.

The menu at El Porteno Gourmet embodies a smart casual style, featuring delightful starters like baked cheese and homemade empanadas. However, the highlight here is the scrumptious Argentinian steak – we especially enjoyed the tender sirloin.

In addition to the classic asado, you’ll find a variety of traditional Argentine dishes. Try the Entraña Fina, a flavorful and tender cut from above the ribs, or the Lomo Buenos Aires, a grilled beef fillet so tender it practically melts in your mouth.

Each meat dish is thoughtfully paired with a sophisticated mix of sides including potatoes, pumpkin puree, mashed potatoes, Argentine salad with onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers, as well as a creamy Russian salad.

Dulce de Leche takes center stage on the dessert menu at El Porteno Gourmet. You’ll also find an array of delectable choices like mousses, delicate crepes, soufflés, and flan casero, an aromatic vanilla dessert with a hint of cinnamon. Don’t miss La Morenita, a four-chocolate glazed cake, and be sure to try their homemade treats such as Lime Pie, featuring lime cream and flambéed meringue.

The wine cellar offers a selection of some of the finest Argentine wines, including Malbec and Torrontés, along with esteemed Italian and international reds and whites, as well as a selection of sparkling wines and champagnes.

After your meal, or even before or later, make sure to visit the chic rooftop. We enjoyed our dessert there, and I swapped my espresso for an espresso martini, which was a delightful choice.

Keep El Porteno Gourmet on your radar while in Rome. You’ll be pleased to know that they also have a family of restaurants in Milan as well as additional locations in Rome!
