Two blog posts in a week? Who would’ve thought! Honestly, I’m currently sitting in the basement since our house is under construction. It’s quite cozy here, providing a perfect environment to focus on writing this post. Now that we’ve officially entered the spooky season, it’s time for “Currently: October 2024 in Alaska,” where I’ll share five things we’re currently doing. And for the first time ever, I’m actually posting this during the first week of October. So, let’s dive in!
Loving // I’m really embracing this change of seasons, which might sound odd, but it’s the truth. We’ve moved past all the “firsts”—like the first winter and the first -40°F day. Now, we’re focused on the “lasts,” and I’m genuinely grateful for that. While we’ve heard some whispers about what’s next for us, nothing is confirmed yet, and we won’t have clarity for several months. For now, we’re savoring every moment of these “lasts” as we prepare for our next adventure.
Seeing // We’re witnessing all the leaves fall! This time last year, we were anticipating the first snowfall. While snow isn’t in sight just yet, we’ve definitely experienced some chilly mornings. It was a brisk 27°F this morning, so I know winter is just around the corner! Thankfully, I’m getting my winter tires put on today.
Looking Forward to // At the moment, my expectations are quite modest. I’m simply looking forward to the completion of the construction on our house. I really should write a dedicated post on our home’s saga, but the short version is that all the mold and water damage is being addressed this week. The contractors estimated five days to finish the work, and today they opened the ceiling in the dining room. I’m not sure if that timeline will remain accurate after they fully reveal what’s behind the ceiling, but they did find more mold and considerable damage to the wood in the ceiling directly below the leak. Please keep your fingers crossed! We’re currently in an Airbnb, and I’m ready to move back home.
Wearing // It’s officially cozy clothes season! One thing I miss about living in South Korea is the emphasis on fashion and appearance. I realize this might sound strange, but the effort people put into their daily outfits inspired me to do the same, even on my off days. Here in Alaska, however, it’s more about staying warm and comfortable. Today, I’m simply rocking some comfy Costco track pants with a hoodie.
Reading // Currently, I’m reading Iron Flame by Rebecca Yaros. I listened to the first book and tried to listen to the second one. However, I didn’t enjoy the narrator for the second book, so now I’ve switched to reading it instead, and it’s so much better!
Now it’s your turn—what are you loving, looking forward to, seeing, wearing, and reading this October?
