An Italian Town with an Irish Soul

Casalattico, a picturesque village nestled in the hills of Frosinone, boasts a surprising connection to Ireland! In the early 1900s, many families from Casalattico and nearby towns like Picinisco immigrated to Ireland seeking work and new opportunities. Most settled in Dublin, where they became well-known for establishing ice cream parlors, cafés, and fish-and-chip shops, which have since become beloved elements of Irish culture.

What’s particularly captivating is that around 80% of today’s Italian community in Ireland can trace their roots back to Casalattico and its neighboring villages. Many of these families maintain strong links to their origins, often visiting during the summer or owning homes back in the village, thus keeping the connection alive.

One of the best ways to experience this unique bond is through the Casalattico Irish Festival held every August. This vibrant event celebrates the special relationship between Italy and Ireland, featuring a delightful combination of Italian and Irish traditions, including music, dancing, and delicious cuisine from both countries. It’s a wonderful opportunity for Irish visitors to reconnect with their heritage and for locals to celebrate their village’s proud connection to Ireland.

If you find yourself nearby in August, be sure to attend the Casalattico Irish Festival. It’s a fantastic celebration of two cultures coming together and a reminder of the village’s enduring ties to Ireland!
