For those who may not know, Manny was born and raised in Pilsen, where he lived for many years. His grandmother, aunt, and cousins still reside there, and we visit frequently. This neighborhood holds a special place in our family’s heart, so I’m excited to share some of our favorite local spots. 😊

- Frida Room – An excellent spot for brunch!
- El Milagro – Cafeteria-style dining with a delightful mole.
- Carnitas Uruapan – Famous for the best carnitas and chicharrones in Chicago since 1975!
- Rubi’s Chicago – Formerly at the Maxwell St. Market, now a permanent location. Try their huge tacos!
- Carniceria Mirabel – An amazing taco stand, bodega, and butcher shop.
Dinner
- 5 Rabanitos – One of our favorite restaurants, located near the National Museum of Mexican Art.
- Los Comales – Known for great spicy chorizo, located on 18th St.
- Carnitas Uruapan – Famous for its classic carnitas, a long-standing favorite!
- La Mejikana – Offers upscale Mexican cuisine along with cocktails, all in a century-old building!
- Rubi’s Tacos – Expect long lines, so it’s best to arrive early!
Drinks
- La Luna – Enjoy the drinks (try the watermelon margarita, it’s sublime!) while soaking in the food and atmosphere.
- Del Toro – Offers the best margaritas in the city, a true favorite of mine!
- Lo Rez Brewing and Taproom – Features housemade craft brews in a unique warehouse-like setting.
- Simones – Fun atmosphere, for those 21 and older.

Día de Los Muertos Xicágo at NMMA in Harrison Park – October 26, 2024 (An all-ages, free event. Highly recommended! Be sure to visit the museum afterwards!)
