In 2024-2025, solar activity is at its peak, greatly enhancing the intensity and splendor of the northern lights. These breathtaking photographs were captured in the Kotlas district, located in the southeastern part of Arkhangelsk Oblast, during the night of August 12-13, 2024. According to the photographer, this event showcased the most vibrant and brilliant aurora he has ever witnessed.
Every display of the northern lights is distinct. At times, they appear as green bands wrapping around the night sky; at other times, they create a shimmering canopy resembling glowing mist. The dominant color is green, often accented by pink hues along the edges and purple tones at the center. All images are credited to Evgeny Smolsky.
