As we reach the middle of August, we prepare for the Italian celebration of Ferragosto on the 15th.
This national holiday in Italy is often celebrated for more than just one day, as families venture to the beach, the lake, or the mountains for an extended period of relaxation and enjoyment during summer.
Ferragosto is a holiday I wish would be embraced in the United States. After all, who wouldn’t appreciate a summer break in the midst of heat, storms, and work?
Although I won’t be experiencing the holiday in Lucca, as I’m currently in New Mexico visiting family, I plan to celebrate it here and treat it as my own mid-August getaway.
