When it’s time to escape the chaos of city life, nothing compares to a retreat in nature. I recently enjoyed a rejuvenating stay at the delightful Thousand Trails Bend-Sunriver in Oregon. The stunning scenery and comfortable accommodations shared with friends made this trip truly special.
Arriving in Bend-Sunriver
We kicked off our adventure with a flight into Redmond’s RDM airport. After picking up our rental car, we made a quick stop at Trader Joe’s to stock up on groceries for the week. From the moment we arrived at the campground, it was evident that Thousand Trails takes great care in providing a welcoming atmosphere for all guests, including our furry companions. The park is pet-friendly, making it heartwarming to see so many families enjoying the great outdoors with their dogs.
The Charm of Petite Retreats
Petite Retreats adds a unique twist to the conventional camping experience. With options ranging from tiny houses to yurts, each accommodation offers a picturesque setting for your getaway. Our cozy cabin came fully equipped with essentials such as linens, basic kitchen tools, an oven, a stove, grills, and a fire pit. It was the ideal mix of rustic charm and modern convenience—truly a representation of glamping! (Glamping is a luxurious and enjoyable version of traditional camping!)
Activities and Adventures
One of the highlights of our stay was the variety of activities available at the campground. The old western theme added a fun twist, and we had a fantastic time exploring everything it had to offer. With options like tubing down the river, playing mini-golf, or challenging each other to pickleball, there was never a dull moment.
If you enjoy water sports, the on-site company, Bend Experience, offers kayaks, rafts, and guided trips during the season. We spent one memorable afternoon kayaking and soaking in the breathtaking views—a definite highlight of the trip.
Nearby Attractions
The location of Bend-Sunriver is perfect for nature lovers. We hiked along the stunning Sahalie and Koosah Falls and enjoyed a tranquil paddle at Clear Lake. Suttle Lake served as the ideal spot for a picnic lunch and some relaxation on the sandy shores. A brief excursion to the charming town of Sisters allowed us to browse local shops and enjoy a delightful lunch.
Culinary Delights
One of the joys of glamping is certainly the food, and we indulged during our stay. From grilling skirt steak to enjoying BBQ chicken hummus wraps for lunch, each meal was a treat. Here’s a quick packing list to ensure you have everything you need for a culinary adventure:

A Community Spirit
