Can you believe there’s a golf club with its own beehive and vegetable garden? It’s true, and you can find it at La Montecchia, one of our esteemed estates in the Veneto region.
But the club’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond honey production. At the BIGA Conference Show in Harrogate, UK, Golf della Montecchia was honored as the International Environmental Golf Club of 2024. This prestigious award recognizes over a decade of dedicated efforts in nature conservation, turf management, and sustainable waste and water practices.
By implementing Bermuda grass, the club has substantially reduced its water and fertilizer usage, eliminating pesticides entirely. Additionally, various studies and projects have been initiated to protect the local fauna, flora, and landscapes.
Recently, I learned about drought-resistant plant species for private gardens at the Botanical Dry Garden in southern Tuscany, and I am thrilled to see these eco-friendly methods have made their way into the golfing world as well!
