How to Organize an Amazing Trip to Europe | Your Guide to European Travel

Date:

According to the United Nations, Europe is home to 44 countries today. With so many choices, how do you decide which ones to visit and what to see within each country?

The answer largely depends on your personal interests. Are there countries you’ve always dreamed of visiting? If you have a passion for theater and royal palaces, consider England. If you’re intrigued by golf, dramatic landscapes, and whisky, Scotland is calling your name. For those with Italian heritage who enjoy pasta and fine wine, Italy is a must-visit. If you love buttery croissants, renowned art, and cozy French bistros, look no further than France. Excited about experiencing Oktoberfest? Then make plans to be in Germany in September! Alternatively, if you wish to explore your Irish roots and visit a place where English is spoken, albeit with a unique twist, then Ireland should be on your list!

This is just the beginning; the options are endless! The key is to prioritize the European destinations you’ve always found intriguing. That’s where you should start your journey. If you’ve already visited some places but didn’t fully experience them, consider returning for a more in-depth exploration. And for the places that still catch your eye, take note of other European destinations that pique your interest.

Speaking of making choices, go ahead and jot down a list of all the European locations you’d love to visit. Once you have your list, prioritize it. As we’ve recommended, spend as much time as possible in your chosen destinations—to truly immerse yourself in the local culture, cuisine, and activities. If your time is limited, choosing to stay in one location will provide a deeper sense of the area compared to rushing from one place to another.

Our clients who travel to Europe often have a more rewarding experience when they linger longer in fewer locations. We’ve found this to be true in our own travels as well! Although it may be tough to skip some destinations, focusing your time often results in a more enriching experience. Plan to return and explore more of Europe on your next trip!

Now that you’ve reflected on your timing and selected the cities or countries you wish to visit, create an itinerary and schedule for your journey. Research online to discover the various activities and sights in each area. The more you explore before your trip, the more incredible places you’ll uncover to visit while in Europe. You’re on the verge of planning an unforgettable adventure!

Check Your European Travel Paperwork

Is all your travel paperwork in order? When was the last time you renewed your passport? Remember that children’s passports expire in 5 years, while adult passports are valid for 10 years. If you’re unsure about your passport’s expiration date, check it now to ensure you have at least 6 months of validity left post-trip. You wouldn’t want to plan your entire vacation only to discover at the airport that you can’t fly. It’s important to be prepared!

Will you require ETIAS authorization to enter your chosen destinations? The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is a new initiative designed to enhance security in Europe and improve border management. It is expected to be implemented in mid-2025 for all non-EU visitors who do not require a visa. If you plan to travel to Europe in the coming years, make sure you obtain this authorization well in advance of your trip!

Are there any COVID-related regulations you need to be aware of for your travels in Europe? Most restrictions have been lifted, but these can change frequently, so it’s crucial to know the requirements for your specific destinations. Be mindful that different countries may have varying regulations. We recommend staying up to date with your vaccinations before you embark on your much-awaited European adventure; it would be unfortunate to fall ill during your well-planned itinerary.
