The heli-tourism policy is set to be the first of its kind in the country. This initiative aims to popularize heli-tourism and attract more visitors. We are currently exploring the full potential of this exciting travel concept.
On Saturday in Kochi, Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas announced that Kerala will soon implement a heli-tourism industry policy. He introduced the state government’s heli-tourism initiative called ‘Sky Departures,’ in collaboration with Chipsan Aviation, at Kochi Airport.
Riyas emphasized that the government is working on creating a comprehensive heli-tourism policy for the state, stating, “This policy will be the first in the country. It will help promote the concept and attract more tourists. Our goal is to make this project more user-friendly as we explore the possibilities of heli-tourism.”
The minister further explained that the state government will play a significant role in facilitating the initiative while also collaborating with private stakeholders to develop the necessary infrastructure. A microsite with information about the heli-tourism services has been launched as part of this project. “We will be coordinating with helicopter operators and encourage more of them to join this initiative. Additionally, more helipads will be developed by the state government in partnership with private enterprises,” he stated.
He highlighted the advantages of heli-tourism, explaining that it allows tourists to visit various attractions without wasting time. “Given Kerala’s heavy traffic and crowded conditions, many tourists may avoid certain destinations due to delays caused by congestion. Heli-tourism will enable travelers to reach all locations quickly,” he noted. Present at the event were Tourism Secretary K. Biju, Tourism Director P.B. Nooh, District Collector N.S.K. Umesh, and KTIL Chairman S.K. Saneesh. The event included a helicopter flight from Kochi Airport carrying two couples to Munnar.
