The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and the Ministry of Health have reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring the safety of tourists and investors in the country following the confirmation of the Marburg virus on September 27.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 3, via RDB’s X platform, they highlighted that Rwanda is open for business and have detailed measures to protect both Rwandans and visitors.
The statement reassures the public that tourism in Rwanda remains safe, emphasizing that the health and well-being of visitors is a top priority.
“Visitors can travel with confidence, knowing that all necessary precautions are being taken to prevent the spread of Marburg,” the statement noted.

The statement further clarified that, since Marburg is not airborne and cannot be spread by individuals who show no symptoms, travel restrictions are unlikely. Operators, hotels, and service providers have been advised to adhere to strict hygiene protocols, which include temperature checks, regular handwashing, and the availability of sanitizing stations, along with enhanced cleanliness practices.
Rwanda continues to host events safely, with organizers prioritizing the health and safety of attendees. Event planners are encouraged to implement extra hygiene measures, such as temperature checks, handwashing facilities, and minimizing close contact among participants.

“This balanced, evidence-based approach allows events to proceed while ensuring the safety of all participants and staff,” the statement added.
For investors, Rwanda’s proactive public health measures effectively balance public safety and economic stability.
“This ensures that Rwanda remains open for investment. The country’s effective, evidence-driven response to public health challenges demonstrates why it is a trustworthy option for investors,” the statement emphasized.
Additionally, businesses are encouraged to continue their operations as usual. “However, they are requested to follow the Ministry of Health’s enhanced hygiene guidelines, such as conducting temperature checks and providing handwashing or sanitizing stations at building entrances.”
“These measures are vital for maintaining smooth business operations while protecting the health of staff and customers,” the statement concluded.
