I’m back with another roster update! Things are gradually becoming more exciting, with several flights scheduled each month. I can’t wait for operations to return to pre-COVID levels (my salary is definitely craving those 100 flying hours!) but for now, I’m content with some layovers, especially in locations where I can venture out and explore.
If you saw my previous post, you’ll know I only completed two of the flights I was originally assigned last month. The Cape Town flight was cancelled shortly after the roster was released, and I was also taken off the Dammam and Kabul routes. Additionally, the Glasgow flight was scrapped because my layover for Tunis turned into a 48-hour stay!
Instead, I was assigned a flight to Perth, which I welcomed as it provided a good number of flying hours. Unfortunately, we were confined to the hotel room during our stay due to Australian government regulations.
At the end of the month, I was also scheduled for a flight to Düsseldorf, which was a pleasant and straightforward trip to kick off September. If all goes as planned, here’s where I’ll be flying this month:
- TUN – Tunis, Tunisia
- SEZ – Mahé Island, Seychelles
- CKY-DSS – Conakry, Guinea & Dakar, Senegal
- MAA – Chennai, India (turnaround)
- DUS – Düsseldorf, Germany
As you can see, there are some repeats from August!
I still have a few reserve days, meaning I find out each day at 6 PM whether I’ll have a flight. While it’s likely these will turn into days off, I wouldn’t mind picking up another flight to add a few more hours to my schedule.
My first scheduled flight is to Tunis, which amusingly was initially an Istanbul turnaround like last month. I managed to swap it for a layover instead. The Istanbul flight was one of the busiest and most stressful I’ve done in years, resulting in a very long day. So, I was thrilled to exchange it for another trip to Tunis, which hopefully allows me to enjoy the hotel pool and soak up some sun!
Next, I have a much-anticipated trip to the Seychelles. Unfortunately, it’s only a 15-hour layover, so I’ll have to maximize my time at the hotel (where leaving is not permitted) and relish the pool experience. Fingers crossed for sunny weather!
Following that, I have a multi-sector trip to Conakry and Dakar. This won’t be my first visit to these cities; you can read about my previous trips to Conakry in 2017 here and Dakar here. Unfortunately, there will be no layover in Conakry this time, but we’ll have 24 hours in Dakar. I’m currently unsure if I will be allowed to leave the hotel there.
Afterwards, there’s a turnaround flight to Chennai, which isn’t my favorite as it operates overnight. I’ll definitely be relying on coffee during that flight!
Lastly, there’s another layover in Düsseldorf. Interestingly, I just returned from there! Previously, I was restricted from flying to certain German destinations due to vaccination requirements. I received the Sinopharm vaccine back in February, when it was available to Emirates staff. After six months, I got both doses of the Pfizer vaccine, allowing me to operate to additional destinations. Hopefully, this marks a return to normalcy soon! (I’ve been saying that for months now…)
That’s my roster for this month – I can hardly believe we’re almost in 2022!
