As many of you may know, we are still navigating through a dream-like haze due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Before our trip to Ferrara on Friday, we decided to make a quick stop to visit Betti’s mother, who spends the month of August in the stunning mountainous region of Val Seriana, specifically in the town of Bratto.
We’ve been visiting this area for about 27 years but had never ventured beyond the valley to explore the beautiful landscapes it offers. Thanks to the enthusiastic recommendations from Betti’s sister, Patty, we decided to check out a place called Lago Moro.
This location is relatively close to the famous Gleno Dam, which Betti wrote about in a previous blog post.
Yesterday, we set out with our niece Camila, her son Olmo, and Betti’s sister Patty, driving towards this enchanting lake nestled in the mountains. Initially, I was in a bit of a sour mood because I thought we would miss a delightful lunch at a Trattoria and would have to stick to our diet of Bresaola and Integral crackers.
Upon our arrival and after parking the car, we began our descent toward the lake. To my surprise, we were greeted with a breathtaking view of Lago Moro, which I fondly dubbed “il lago magico” (the magical lake).
The area was bustling with visitors enjoying the lake and renting lovely homes nearby. Thankfully, everyone was quite friendly and accommodating, making space for us to set down our belongings and dive right into the water. Betti and I were prepared for icy cold water, but to our delight, the lake was refreshingly cool and the water quality was crystal clear, exceeding our expectations!
After a fantastic swim with the whole family (and I must mention our niece’s loyal dog, Bolla, who kept a watchful eye on the group), we enjoyed a small picnic that curbed my cravings for a Trattoria lunch, made even better by the stunning surroundings. With the lake covering approximately 8 km, we decided to walk along the wooden path that circles the lake to take some photos.
If you ever find yourself in this part of Italy, I highly recommend visiting “my magical lake,” Lago Moro!
