Florence is not just a city known for its medieval and Renaissance heritage. Its streets also conceal other remarkable treasures that visitors might not expect to find, such as examples of the Liberty style, the Florentine art nouveau movement from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This decorative style showcases intricate wrought iron designs with floral and animal motifs, characterized by both linear and curvilinear forms. The Liberty style faced considerable resistance in Florence, with many critics arguing that it disrupted the architectural harmony of the city.
The pressure from opposition was significant, leading authorities of the time to ban the construction of these buildings in the historic center. Most of these structures were designed by Giovanni Michelazzi, a prominent figure in the Liberty Fiorentino movement who championed freedom of expression in architecture. However, with his passing in 1920, this architectural style came to an abrupt halt in Florence.

Este estilo, que utiliza hierro forjado, motivos florales y animales y formas lineales y curvas, enfrentó en Florencia oposición, hostilidad y crítica, pues se creía que estos edificios rompían la uniformidad arquitectónica de la ciudad.
La presión fue tal que las autoridades de la época prohibieron este tipo de edificaciones en el centro histórico. La mayoría de ellas fueron diseñadas por el arquitecto Giovanni Michelazzi, estandarte del Liberty Fiorentino, quien se opuso a la prohibición defendiendo la libertad de expresión.
