This tranquil Japanese oasis is located at the back of the former Gardenia Tropical Center, behind a large glass structure, where the cherry trees are currently in their most splendid bloom.
The Japanese Garden at Gardenia is an exotic blend of a Japanese rock garden and Finnish natural landscapes. In the center of the park, a stone water feature is surrounded by a well-kept green lawn and a dozen cherry trees that glow softly in the spring sunshine.
Some families and couples have come to enjoy the warm spring day with picnic snacks. The atmosphere in this oasis is pleasantly relaxed, far removed from the large crowds typically found in the popular Roihuvuori Cherry Park.
In the Japanese Garden of Gardenia, bodies relax, and minds find peace. For lovers of aesthetics, there is plenty of pink beauty to appreciate against the blue sky. A woman can never have enough of the pink flowers.
The Japanese rock garden offers an open view over Viikki’s fields. It also seems that apart from the Japanese garden, there are other mini-gardens here, featuring, according to signs, fruit trees, roses, and summer flowers.
It appears that someone is still tending to the outdoor gardens of Gardenia, despite the main Gardenia center having been closed for years. The once-vacant glass building of Gardenia has now gained new life as the local brewery CoolHead Taproom & Terrace has begun operations here.
