President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians, along with the Methodist Church, to remain dedicated to praying for their communities, the nation, and its leaders. He emphasized that prayer provides strength and guidance, particularly as Nigeria faces various challenges.

During the 40th anniversary celebration of the Abuja Archdiocese of the Methodist Church on Sunday, President Tinubu, represented by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, called for continued devotion.

“I encourage you to stay steadfast in your commitment to prayer—not only for your communities but for our cherished Nigeria and its leaders. Your prayers serve as a vital source of strength and guidance as we navigate the complexities of governance,” he stated.

The President further urged the church to continue its mission of service and outreach while supporting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He stressed the importance of unity in addressing the nation’s challenges.

“Your church can serve as a platform for social transformation, where individuals unite to drive change, promote peace, and uplift the community. By partnering with the government and embracing the principles of the Renewed Hope Agenda, we can build a Nigeria that reflects our shared aspirations,” he added.

Reflecting on the Methodist Church’s 182-year presence in Nigeria, Tinubu praised its role in fostering peace, unity, and understanding. According to a statement from FCT Minister’s Press Director, Anthony Ogunleye, the President acknowledged, “The church has played a key role in promoting peace and unity in our nation. Your messages of love, reconciliation, and understanding have sparked dialogue among diverse communities, encouraging us to embrace our differences and work towards the greater good.”

Tinubu also commended the Methodist Church for its contributions to nation-building through social justice, education, and humanitarian efforts. He congratulated the Abuja Archdiocese on its 40th anniversary and encouraged members to consider the church’s societal impact while renewing their commitment to its values of love and service.

Former leaders, including General Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, also acknowledged the church’s historic contributions.

In his statement, Methodist Prelate Oliver Ali Aba expressed hope that the nation’s current challenges would soon be resolved.
