The Post Office is considering the possibility of eliminating two out of three jobs as part of a cost-saving initiative.
A portion of the anticipated £200 million in savings will be allocated to enhance the pay of sub-postmasters, according to reports from last night.
A review initiated after the Horizon IT scandal could potentially reduce the staff count from 3,100 to approximately 1,000.
Positions at the London headquarters might be eliminated.
However, sub-postmasters who manage most of the 11,500 Post Office branches will remain unaffected.
Similarly, postal workers (posties) employed by Royal Mail will also not be impacted.
Nevertheless, funding for rural Post Offices may be reduced, which could lead to potential closures.
The Post Office announced that the interim chairman’s top priorities are addressing the issues faced by postmasters affected by the IT scandal and increasing their earnings.
These recommendations are currently under review with the government.
Over 900 sub-postmasters were wrongfully prosecuted based on inaccurate data.
